Dr. Leisa Carson
Owner & Veterinarian
Dr. Leisa Carson received her doctorate in veterinary medicine from Colorado State University in 1992. Her first job was in Washington at Pilchuck Veterinary Hospital in equine medicine. After working there a year the partners transferred her to the satellite clinic where small animal medicine was added to her duties as well as managing the hospital! In 1995 she moved to Canyon City, Colorado to be closer to her family, and 1 year later finally home to Ft. Collins. She continued her career at Harmony Hospital for Pets. During her 10 years there, she found her true passion was small animal medicine, surgery, and dentistry. In 2007 she joined Dr. Margaret Baxter, the founding partner at The Vets Animal Hospital. In 2011, Dr. Carson’s lifelong dream of owning a practice came true; she purchased The Vets Animal Hospital. Dr. Carson continues to run the hospital on Dr. Baxter’s philosophy; high quality medicine at a reasonable price.
Additionally, Dr. Carson runs Bits-N-Pieces 4-H club and continues to be the organizational leader. Many kids in the club are in the Lease A Dairy project in which The Vets Animal Hospital purchases the cattle and all necessary supplies so the kids can gain experience in caring for the animals and learn about the agriculture industry.
Leisa is also an active volunteer in the community and school. In 2010 she was given the “Above and Beyond” leadership award from Larimer County 4-H program and in March of 2013 was chosen to receive the 9 Who Cares Award for her volunteer work in the 4-H programs.
In her spare time Dr. Carson loves spending time with her husband, Ken and their 3 children. On her days off you will find her and the kids out in the arena enjoying the horses. Her family is rounded out by a herd of Springer Spaniels and several cats!

Dr. Stephanie A Schwarz-David,
Veterinarian
My father was a wildlife field biologist and my mother was an emergency room nurse. I loved horses as a teenager and showed them in 4-H. I grew up in a rural area and did a lot of mountain camping and trail riding. I knew I wanted to be a veterinarian long before high school.
I received my DVM from Colorado State University in 1992 and began my veterinary career in the small town of Estacada, Oregon. My patients included a variety of companion pets, horses, exotics, and farm animals. As a full time “mixed” general practitioner, I managed patients both within a hospital setting and
in the field and was very often on-call for emergencies.
In 1996 I returned to Northern Colorado and continued practicing veterinary medicine part-time; treating primarily dogs & cats. My husband and I recently celebrated 33 years of marriage. Our five grown children and one grandson fill our lives with adventure and joy. Our pets include 2 dogs, a cat, and a bunny.
Over the years we have also had rats, hamsters, and fish. I enjoy reading, mainly fantasy; and collect old children’s books about dogs, cats, horses, and wildlife.
I am happily pursuing my lifelong dream of being a veterinarian It is a pleasure
to be part of such a dedicated and caring team at The Vets Animal Hospital.
